That's how a software works?

“Computer software is a bunch of guidance that helps the computer hardware and tells it what to do, when to do and how to do a task.”

Software gives life to the computer. Without software the computer is a dead machine.

Types of Software:

Computer software is divided into two types:

·       application software

·       system software

1.  Application software

“Application software is the program that assist the client with performing some explicit tasks.”

Application Software

Examples:

v Word processing software like MS word, word pad and notepad are utilized to make records like letters, reports and so on.

v Database software like oracle and MS access is utilized to store data and play out certain operations on this data.

v Spreadsheet software like Microsoft excel are used to organize or coordinate data/information in rows and columns, perform calculations and present it in charts and graphical representation.

v Presentation software like Microsoft PowerPoint is utilized to represent data in form of presentations over slides.

v Internet programs like Google chrome, Firefox and safari are used to get to the web.

2.  System software

“System software is a set of programs or the projects that control the computer hardware or hardware components.”

The system software is the place for running the application software. System software are:

·       operating system

·       utility software

 

1.  Operating system

“Operating system is a programmable software that goes about as an interface between the client and the computer system.”

       I.            Operating systems for desktop computers and laptop computers are Microsoft windows, Linux, Mac OS.

o   Microsoft windows are extremely mainstream operating system made by Microsoft. The creator of Microsoft is Bill Gates. There are various versions of Microsoft windows.

o   Mac OS is an operating system created by apple/Mac. The founder of apple/Macintosh is Steve jobs and Steve Wayzniak. Mac OS can run on all Macintosh PCs.

o   Linux is a free operating system that can be downloaded from the web. It was created by Linus Torvalds.

     II.            Operating systems for cell phones are android and apple iOS.

o   Android is the most widely recognized versatile operating system utilized for mobile phone and tablets.

o   iOS is utilized on i-phone and i-pad.

2.  Utility software

“Utility Software is a software used to examine, design, streamline and keep up with the computer.”

Anti virus Software

Examples:

Examples of utility software are:

Ø anti-virus software

Ø backup software

Ø disk compression tool

Ø File manager.
